Colleen Newton, PT, DPT is a Physical Therapist and Onboarding and Credentialing Specialist at M Street Pediatric Therapy.
Colleen met Alison Liddle during one of her early clinical rotations in Early Intervention. Her experience during that rotation played a big factor in her choice to remain in this field.
After graduating from the University of Illinois at Chicago, Colleen began working part-time at Alison Liddle’s previous company while also getting certified in Dry Needling and working part-time at another outpatient clinic that specialized in vestibular rehab and orthopedic care.
Colleen has always enjoyed working with children, especially the 0-3 population. It is a unique setting, being able to enter a child's home and adapt to each family's routines. She believes it is truly amazing to watch the joy and excitement on both, a child's and their caregiver's, faces when they reach a new motor milestone, no matter how small. A pivotal moment during her clinical rotation with Ali was getting to work with a child outside on a beautiful summer day, blowing bubbles, and watching a child take their first independent steps!
Colleen is passionate about ensuring intervention is family and child-centered, making sure of a functional approach to therapy so that it translates easily into daily life. She truly enjoys being able to play with children for work. She tries to slow down to the level of the child, observe what it is they are finding interesting during our sessions, and help enrich their environment/play/routines based upon those interests. She quite easily falls into conversations with the child throughout the session, narrating along what we are playing, further providing layers of developmental enrichment, and also helping a caregiver hear what the intended goal of the interactions being provided.
